How We Ship a 275-Pound Slot Machine to Your Door

One of the first questions we hear from new customers is how exactly we get a 275-pound slot machine from our warehouse in Kingman, Arizona to their home in New Jersey, Florida, or wherever they happen to be. It is a fair question. These are not small packages.

We have been shipping machines nationwide since 1992 and have refined our process over thousands of deliveries. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you place your order to the moment the machine is sitting at your curb.

The Machine: Weight and Dimensions

A typical slot machine weighs between 200 and 350 pounds depending on the model. Here are some common examples.

• IGT S2000 upright: approximately 275 pounds, 20 inches wide, 22 inches deep, 44 inches tall
• IGT S2000 slant-top (without stand): approximately 150 pounds, 24 inches wide, 26 inches deep, 24 inches tall
• Bally Alpha upright: approximately 300 pounds, 22 inches wide, 24 inches deep, 52 inches tall
• WMS Bluebird upright: approximately 325 pounds, 24 inches wide, 25 inches deep, 54 inches tall
• IGT Game King slant-top (without stand): approximately 145 pounds

Upright machines are heavier because they contain the full cabinet, stand, and all components in one unit. Slant-tops are lighter individually but need a separate stand.

How We Prepare Your Machine

After your machine passes final testing, our shipping team takes over.

Securing Internal Components

The first step is making sure nothing moves inside the cabinet during transit. The coin hopper is locked in position. The bill validator is secured. Any loose internal wiring is zip-tied. The reel mechanism on mechanical machines is locked to prevent the reels from spinning freely and potentially damaging the reel strips.

On machines with CRT monitors, we take extra care. These glass tubes are sensitive to impact. We add internal foam bracing around the monitor assembly.

Protecting the Exterior

All glass panels — the top glass, belly glass, and any lower panels — are protected with cardboard sheets taped in place. Door handles and protruding locks are padded. Chrome accents are wrapped.

Shrink Wrapping

The entire machine gets wrapped in industrial shrink wrap. This is not the thin household stuff. This is thick, heavy-duty stretch film that holds everything together and provides a moisture barrier. We do multiple passes until the machine is completely encased.

Palletizing

The wrapped machine is secured to a standard 48x40 shipping pallet using heavy-duty ratchet straps. The machine is positioned so its center of gravity is stable and it cannot tip. Corner boards are added to distribute strap pressure and protect cabinet edges.

The final package is a solid, stable unit that can be moved by forklift and will withstand the normal handling of freight transit.

LTL Freight: How It Works

We ship via LTL (Less Than Truckload) freight carriers. This is different from UPS or FedEx parcel service. Here is what LTL means and why we use it.

LTL freight is a commercial shipping service where your palletized machine shares truck space with other freight shipments heading in the same direction. The carrier picks up from our dock, consolidates with other shipments at their terminal, routes it through their network, and delivers to your address.

We use LTL because it is the safest and most cost-effective way to move a 275-pound machine on a pallet. Parcel carriers like UPS and FedEx have weight limits (usually 150 pounds) and are not designed for this type of cargo.

Our primary carriers are established national freight companies with residential delivery capabilities. We choose carriers based on their track record of careful handling and reliable residential service.

Transit Times by Region

• Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington): 3 to 5 business days

These are estimates. Actual transit time depends on the specific carrier route, terminal locations, and whether there are any delays in the network. Holiday periods and severe weather can add 1 to 3 days.

Tracking Your Shipment

Once your machine ships, we email you the carrier name, PRO number (tracking number), and a link to track online. You can see when it reaches each terminal along the route.

Freight tracking is not as precise as parcel tracking. You will see terminal scans rather than every-stop updates. But you will know when it arrives at the terminal nearest your delivery address and when delivery is scheduled.

Delivery Day: What to Expect

Here is how delivery day typically goes.

Delivery Appointment

The carrier will call you to schedule a delivery window, usually a 4-hour block on a specific day. This is standard for residential freight delivery. You need someone present to receive the shipment.

The Truck

A full-size freight truck (similar to a large box truck or semi trailer) will arrive at your address. The driver has your palletized machine aboard.

Liftgate Service

All our shipments include liftgate service. The liftgate is a hydraulic platform on the back of the truck that lowers your pallet from truck bed height (about 4 feet) down to ground level. Without a liftgate, you would need a forklift or loading dock at your home — which nobody has.

The driver operates the liftgate and moves the pallet to it using a pallet jack. The platform lowers smoothly to curb level.

Curbside Delivery

Standard freight delivery is curbside. That means the driver gets the pallet to your curb, driveway apron, or as close to your door as the truck can reach on a paved surface. The driver will not bring the machine inside your home, up stairs, or across your lawn.

This is the standard across the freight industry for residential deliveries. The driver is one person with a pallet jack — they cannot maneuver a 275-pound machine into a house.

Inspection

Before signing the delivery receipt, inspect the exterior wrapping. If you see obvious damage to the shrink wrap or pallet — torn wrapping, crushed corners, a broken pallet — note it on the delivery receipt as damaged. Take photos. Then contact us immediately. Noting damage on the receipt is critical for any freight claim.

If the exterior looks fine, sign and accept. You can unwrap and fully inspect later.

Getting the Machine Inside

This is the part that is on you, but we have helped thousands of customers figure it out. Here are the most common approaches.

The Two-Person Dolly Method

This is what most customers use. Rent or buy a heavy-duty appliance dolly (hand truck) rated for at least 300 pounds. Remove the machine from the pallet and shrink wrap at the curb. Tip the machine onto the dolly and wheel it in. This takes two people — one to control the dolly and one to stabilize.

An appliance dolly with stair-climbing wheels makes steps manageable. Slot machines have a high center of gravity, so go slow and keep the machine tipped well back on the dolly.

The Furniture Mover Method

Hire two movers for an hour. Many local moving companies offer small jobs or hourly rates. Tell them it is a 275-pound arcade-style machine on a pallet at your curb and you need it moved to a specific room. Cost is typically $75 to $150 for an hour of labor.

The Friend and Pizza Method

Round up a strong friend or two, get a furniture dolly or appliance dolly, and take your time. This is a common approach and works fine as long as you go slowly and plan your path in advance. Measure doorways (you need at least 24 inches clear), remove doors from hinges if needed, and clear the path completely.

For Slant-Top Machines

These are much easier since the machine head and stand are separate pieces. The machine head weighs 145 to 160 pounds and the stand is 50 to 80 pounds. Two people can carry each piece separately without special equipment.

Tips for a Smooth Delivery

• Have your delivery path planned before the truck arrives
• Measure all doorways, hallways, and turns
• Remove any doors that are tight fits
• Clear the path of rugs, furniture, and obstacles
• Have the dolly or movers ready for the same day
• Do not leave the machine on the pallet outside overnight — weather and theft are both risks
• If you have a garage, consider having the driver place the pallet there instead of at the curb (some drivers will accommodate this if the truck can reach)

What About White Glove Delivery?

Some customers ask about inside delivery or white glove service where professionals bring the machine to a specific room and set it up. This is available but significantly more expensive — typically $300 to $500 on top of standard shipping. It must be arranged in advance.

If you want white glove delivery, let us know at the time of order. We can either arrange it through the freight carrier (some offer this as an add-on) or coordinate with a local delivery service at your end.
