Five Times Pay Slot Machine: Complete Home Buyer's Guide

Everything you need to know about the IGT Five Times Pay slot machine for home use — variants, pricing, legal status in 2026, and how it compares to Double Diamond and Triple Diamond.

If you have spent any time on a casino floor, you know the Five Times Pay. That red 5X symbol sitting in the middle of the reels, dangling the promise of a 25x multiplier if it lines up with another on the payline. It is one of the most copied symbols in slot machine history, and the original IGT version remains one of the most sought-after home machines we sell.

We have been stocking and shipping IGT S2000 machines since the 1990s, and the Five Times Pay variants are consistently among our fastest-selling reel games. This guide covers every variant, exactly what you get, pricing, legal status, and how to choose between the Five Times Pay and its closest cousins.

What Is the IGT Five Times Pay Slot Machine?

Five Times Pay is a three-reel, single-payline game produced by IGT on the S2000 platform. The game uses cherries, single bars, double bars, triple bars, and the distinctive red and white Five Times Pay symbol as its main paying symbols.

The defining mechanic is the 5x multiplier wild. When one Five Times Pay symbol appears on the payline along with any other winning combination, the payout is multiplied by five. When two Five Times Pay symbols appear on the payline with a third paying symbol, the payout is multiplied by 25. The maximum jackpot in standard play is triggered by three Five Times Pay symbols aligned on the payline.

This multiplier mechanic was revolutionary when IGT introduced it, and it remains compelling today. The anticipation of watching that first 5X stop on the payline — then holding your breath as the second reel spins — is one of the purest slot machine experiences available. It does not require a video screen, a bonus round, or 40 paylines. It is three reels, one line, and the hope that the math falls your way.

The Five Times Pay Variant Family

IGT produced several distinct Five Times Pay game configurations over the years. Understanding the differences helps you choose the right one for your home.

Standard Five Times Pay

The base version. Three reels, one payline, the 5X symbol. Available in quarter, dollar, and nickel denominations. The 5X symbol on this machine is a substitute and multiplier — it multiplies wins but does not substitute for other symbols to create new combinations. You need a paying combination on the payline for the multiplier to activate.

This is the most common version and what most buyers picture when they hear "Five Times Pay."

Five Times Pay Wild

The Wild version takes the mechanic further. The Five Times Pay symbol still multiplies, but in this version it also acts as a true wild — substituting for any other symbol on the payline. This creates more frequent wins because the 5X can complete combinations it could not in the standard version, while also multiplying the payout.

If a standard Five Times Pay and a Five Times Pay Wild were spinning side by side, the Wild version would have a higher hit frequency and more medium-sized wins due to the substitution mechanic. Many experienced buyers prefer the Wild for home use because there is more action — more frequent small and medium wins rather than longer dry runs between the big multiplier hits.

Double Spin Five Times Pay

A variant that gives players two spins of the reels on a single credit. The second spin uses whatever stops from the first spin that the player wants to keep — a hold mechanic that adds a decision element to the game. Rarer than the standard versions and tends to command a premium when available.

5X Pay 5 Line

A five-payline version of the Five Times Pay mechanic on the S2000 platform. Instead of one center payline, the machine evaluates five lines across the three reels. Credits can be bet per line, and the 5X multiplier applies to wins on any active payline. This version plays quite differently from the single-line original — more frequent small wins across multiple lines rather than the all-or-nothing single-line experience.

S-Plus vs. S2000

The Five Times Pay game was available on both the S-Plus platform (manufactured 1989–1998) and the S2000 platform (manufactured 1996–2004). The game is essentially the same, but the cabinet and hardware differ.

S-Plus Five Times Pay: - Older platform, less common now - Smaller bill validator slot (some models pre-date bill validators) - CRT-style display with slightly older look - Lower price point due to age - Fully qualifies as antique in all 25-year rule states

S2000 Five Times Pay: - More common, wider parts availability - Better bill validator acceptance (takes $1–$100 bills) - Cleaner cabinet design with chrome trim - The platform most buyers know and prefer - Machines manufactured through 2001 qualify in 25-year rule states; machines made 2002–2004 do not qualify in those states until their manufacture year hits the 25-year threshold

When in doubt, ask the seller for the exact manufacture date on the serial plate. We document manufacture dates on every machine we sell and provide that certificate for buyers in age-restricted states.

Physical Specifications

The IGT S2000 Five Times Pay upright cabinet has the following specifications:

  • Height: 44 inches (plus the top candle, which adds 4–6 inches)
  • Width: 22 inches
  • Depth: 20 inches
  • Weight: Approximately 250 pounds
  • Power: Standard 110V/120V household current (US wall outlet)
  • Amperage: 2–4 amps at operating load

This is an upright machine — it stands on its own without a separate stand, unlike slant-top machines. The footprint is modest: about the width of a small refrigerator, though not as deep. It fits comfortably against a wall in a game room, basement, or home bar.

Getting it through doorways: the 22-inch width fits through any standard 32-inch doorway with clearance to spare. A 30-inch door is fine. You need an appliance dolly and someone to help you tip and manage the weight.

Pricing Guide (2026)

Five Times Pay pricing depends on the platform, variant, condition, and denomination. Here is what you should expect to pay from a reputable dealer with a refurbished, tested machine.

IGT S-Plus Five Times Pay

  • Quarter denomination: $795–$1,095
  • Dollar denomination: $850–$1,150

The S-Plus is a bargain entry point for buyers who want the Five Times Pay mechanic without paying S2000 prices. The game plays identically. The main downsides are older-style cosmetics and slightly less parts availability than the S2000.

IGT S2000 Five Times Pay (Standard)

  • Quarter denomination: $1,195–$1,595
  • Dollar denomination: $1,295–$1,695

This is the most common Five Times Pay configuration we sell. A well-refurbished S2000 Five Times Pay in quarter denomination is one of the most reliable, satisfying home machines available at any price.

IGT S2000 Five Times Pay Wild

  • Quarter denomination: $1,295–$1,695
  • Dollar denomination: $1,395–$1,795

The Wild variant commands a modest premium due to higher demand. Many buyers specifically request it over the standard version once they understand the mechanic difference.

IGT S2000 5X Pay 5 Line

  • Multi-denomination: $1,395–$1,795

The five-line version is less common in inventory and priced slightly higher when available. If you prefer a multi-line experience with the Five Times Pay theme, this is your machine.

Add to any price: - Shipping: $250–$600 depending on your distance from Kingman, Arizona - No stand needed (upright cabinet is self-contained) - Surge protector: $30–$50 recommended

Legal Status in 2026

Five Times Pay machines are legal to own for personal use in the majority of US states, with conditions.

Unrestricted States (No Age Requirement)

Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Ohio, Virginia, Alaska, Minnesota, and several others allow private ownership of any machine regardless of manufacture date. If you are in one of these states, any Five Times Pay — S-Plus or S2000, any manufacture year — is fully legal. See our full legal guide for the complete list.

25-Year Rule States

Twenty-eight states require machines to be 25 or more years old for private ownership. In 2026, this means manufacture date of 2001 or earlier.

For Five Times Pay buyers in these states: - All S-Plus Five Times Pay machines (1989–1998 manufacture) qualify - S2000 Five Times Pay machines manufactured 2001 or earlier qualify - S2000 machines manufactured in 2002, 2003, or 2004 do not yet qualify in these states (they will reach the 25-year threshold in 2027–2029)

When we sell to a buyer in a 25-year rule state, we pull the manufacture date from the machine's serial plate, confirm it qualifies, and include documentation with the shipment. We will not ship a machine to an age-restricted state unless we can confirm it meets the requirement.

States Where We Cannot Ship

Nine states prohibit private ownership of slot machines: Connecticut, Hawaii, Indiana, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin, New Jersey, and Louisiana. We cannot ship any slot machine, including Five Times Pay models, to these states.

For the full breakdown with state-specific notes, see our state-by-state ownership guide.

How Five Times Pay Compares to Similar Games

If you are deciding between the Five Times Pay and other classic multiplier games, here is how they compare.

Five Times Pay vs. Double Diamond

Double Diamond is the single best-selling home slot machine theme of all time. It uses a diamond wild that doubles any win when one appears on the payline and quadruples any win when two appear.

  • Double Diamond top multiplier: 4x (two diamonds)
  • Five Times Pay top multiplier: 25x (two 5X symbols plus a winner)

Five Times Pay has a higher maximum multiplier, which creates more dramatic moments when the big combinations hit. Double Diamond tends to have more consistent mid-level wins because the diamond wild appears more frequently relative to the payline frequency.

Buyers who want heart-stopping jackpot potential often prefer Five Times Pay. Buyers who want a steadier entertainment rhythm often prefer Double Diamond.

Five Times Pay vs. Triple Diamond

Triple Diamond takes the multiplier concept to a three-diamond wild that can multiply wins up to 9x (one diamond) to 1,000x (three diamonds on the payline). Triple Diamond is arguably the most volatile of the classic IGT multiplier games — the big combinations are rare but enormous.

  • Five Times Pay maximum multiplier: 25x
  • Triple Diamond maximum multiplier: 1,000x (three triple diamonds)

If you want the highest ceiling, Triple Diamond. If you want a strong multiplier with a more achievable top combination, Five Times Pay.

Five Times Pay vs. Red White and Blue

Red White and Blue is a classic IGT game that pays on colored 7 combinations rather than multiplier mechanics. It lacks the wild/multiplier element of Five Times Pay but is beloved for its pure three-reel simplicity and patriotic theme.

Red White and Blue attracts buyers who want a straightforward, no-wild-mechanic experience. Five Times Pay attracts buyers who enjoy the tension of multiplier possibilities.

Why Five Times Pay Works So Well at Home

After 34 years of selling machines, we have noticed that the games people enjoy most at home are not necessarily the same ones they play longest at a casino. At a casino, time-on-device and steady entertainment drive machine choice. At home, the memorable moments matter more.

Five Times Pay delivers memorable moments. The experience of watching two 5X symbols land and then waiting for the third reel is a specific kind of anticipation you cannot replicate with a multi-line video slot. Every spin matters in a way that 40-payline machines make hard to track.

It is also a conversation piece. When guests come over and you are playing the Five Times Pay, even people who have never touched a slot machine understand exactly what is happening. The 5X symbol is self-explanatory, the payline is obvious, and the multiplier math is instant. Nobody needs instructions.

And practically: it is one of the most reliable machines we sell. The S2000 platform is proven over decades. The mechanics are simple and well-documented. Parts are available. Our technicians have serviced more Five Times Pay machines than we can count, and they hold up exceptionally well in home environments.

What to Look for When Buying

Verify the Manufacture Date

If you are in a 25-year rule state, confirm the exact manufacture date before ordering. The serial plate on the machine will show it. Ask the seller to document this. We provide a certificate with every machine we ship to age-restricted states.

Confirm the Variant

Make sure you know whether you are buying the standard Five Times Pay, the Wild, the Double Spin, or the 5-Line version. These are meaningfully different game experiences. Ask for the game chip part number if you want to verify.

Check the Denomination

Quarter, nickel, and dollar denominations play differently. Quarter machines are the most common and most buyers prefer them for home use. Dollar machines produce bigger swings per spin. If you want to manage how quickly you cycle through your token supply, quarter is the safe choice.

Ask About the Bill Validator

S2000 machines equipped with a bill validator (accepts $1–$100 bills) are more convenient than token-only models. Verify whether the machine you are buying has a working bill validator installed, or whether it operates on free-play mode only.

All of our machines can be set to free play mode — press a button to add credits without inserting anything. This is how most of our home buyers configure their machines, and it eliminates the need to manage coins or bills entirely.

Inspect the Condition Honestly

A refurbished machine should have clean glass panels, working lights, responsive buttons, and a fully functional reel spin. Cosmetic wear — minor scratches on the cabinet paint — is acceptable on a 25-year-old commercial machine. Non-functional lights, broken buttons, or hesitant reels are not. Make sure your seller tests the machine before shipping and stands behind it with a warranty.

Every Five Times Pay we sell comes with our 1-year parts warranty and free lifetime tech support. If something goes wrong after it arrives, call us and we will sort it out.

FAQ

Is the Five Times Pay available on other platforms besides the S2000?

Yes — it was also available on the older S-Plus platform. The S-Plus is less common in dealer inventory now but still surfaces. The game experience is nearly identical; the cabinet and electronics are older.

Can I change the denomination on a Five Times Pay machine?

Denomination is set by the game chip and coin mechanism. Changing denomination requires swapping components and is not a casual modification. If you want quarter play, make sure you buy a quarter machine. Confirming denomination before purchase is the right approach.

Is the Five Times Pay Wild harder to find than the standard version?

Yes, slightly. The Wild variant has higher demand and tends to sell faster when it comes through inventory. If you specifically want the Wild, tell us — we can prioritize notifying you when one comes in.

How loud is a Five Times Pay machine?

In free play mode, the machine is quiet — comparable to a television at moderate volume. The speakers play the reel sounds and payoff tones, all of which are adjustable via the volume controls inside the door. In coin mode, the hopper payout (coins dropping into the tray) is louder for a few seconds. Most home buyers use free play and never deal with coin noise.

Can I convert a standard Five Times Pay to a Wild?

Not without swapping the game chip and reel strips. The game chips are not interchangeable without also changing the reel strips, which carry the printed symbols the game board expects to see. It is possible as a technical modification, but it is a project for someone comfortable working on slot machine internals. Buying the Wild version from the start is the straightforward approach.

Does Five Times Pay qualify in 25-year rule states?

S2000 machines manufactured in 2001 or earlier qualify in all 25-year rule states in 2026. S-Plus machines qualify everywhere. We confirm and document manufacture date on every machine we sell to age-restricted states.

How much does it cost to run?

The Five Times Pay draws approximately 2–4 amps at 110V, costing roughly $0.02–$0.04 per hour at average US electricity rates — less than a dollar a month for typical home use. See our full electricity cost guide for more.
